I'm sitting here waiting for my phone to backup prior to it's update, so I put up this quick quiz. Why did I let it expire? When I was a regional airline pilot I wasn't too worried about my CFI license. I was not allowed to use it and get paid while working for the airline so when it was time to renew, I was in no rush. I thought I could complete the renewal course in one month, during my airport standby (ready reserve) time at the airport. My renewal month was December and I was able to complete the course on the 31st, which I thought was a good thing. What I didn't know was the FSDO needed the paperwork by the 31st, which wasn't going to happen. Unfortunately that meant that my flight instructor license expired. Now I am starting the path to retake the CFII exam so I can instruct again. I thought about adding on a Multi Engine instructor rating but I am not sure that is what I want to focus on. I really enjoyed giving primary instruction helping people to get their private license.
I am also hoping that I can get into light sport aviation. This is a segment that wasn't really established when I started airline flying. I personally think this is a good way people can get started in aviation in the next decade. I have been involved in 3 flying clubs which is a great way to split costs of flying but when you want your own airplane for fun I think a $130,000 new LSA aircraft is more appealing than an older aircraft and having to make upgrades. It has been a long time coming but hopefully within a year I will have my CFII back and be back to instructing. Thoughts? Leave a comment or drop me a line on twitter @kevinthecfi . |
